Super happy to share I installed Llama (open source LLM) on my laptop.
Just above a couple of years ago this technology was one of the side projects of Google which even Google didn’t believe in.
“Attention Is All You Need” was a 2017 landmark research paper in machine learning authored by eight scientists working at Google.
OpenAI built ChatGPT based on the paper and created not only a new technology but a whole new industry.
It created a new category of computing which was not based on algorithms but models.
It didn’t follow hard logical rules but computed based on statistical probabilities and patterns observed in input data.
Now computers could not only crunch numbers but read and write like humans.
Hence the name Large Language Models (LLM).
It was within a couple of days of OpenAI’s ChatGPT launch on 30 November 2022 that I had my first WTF moment.
Having seen how text was treated just as another data type in all the programming languages, seeing a whole technology based on language was beyond comprehension or imagination.
Now having the model on my laptop is simply next level of excitement.
