An experience almost akin to starting a micro startup. Starts with an idea then you set up infrastructure, hire the right service providers and finally pray dearly.
Recently I shifted for the nth time and hereโs a quick list of some of the emotions I am still processing
โณ Joy of moving to a better place.
โณ Apprehension about brokers and realty platforms.
โณ Anxiety due to limited data and visual inspection
โณ Optimism of convincing family members
โณ Confidence in hiring the right help like maid, cook and car cleaner etc.
โณ Fear of losing the deposit
There are hundreds of decisions to be made within a strict time constraint and any number could go wrong. In reality, quite a few do. But the problem is you have no idea which ones will.
My friends in the US say they mostly do the exercise solo. Yes, one of them even claimed he drove a full-size truck between the locations.
In other cases, they say that they leave most of the furniture behind which is almost unheard of in India. This reduces the dependency on people and thereby reducing friction.
I have changed 16 residences in the last 25 years (which more than I would have wished for) ever since I left my parentโs home. Some of them were voluntary and others forced like this time where the owner wanted to sell his place.
On a lighter note, I donโt know if the experiences will result in a micro startup or even a nano startup but I see my decision-making prowess getting better.
Whatโs your strongest emotion when shifting residences?
ps. Hope the next shift only happens when I enter my own home. What a feeling it would be !!!
